The world aflame a war is on
A bugle calls that all respond
From every corner of the States
Men volunteered some knew the stakes
From Clifton too a Jersey town
A soldier Walter did not frown
Said good bye to all--sweet heart too
Clair his high school love sadly blue
My photo is yours to wear she said
I will wait for you then we will wed
And across the battlegrounds he trooped
Until the war was finally scooped
The war now spent and home he went
Her photo over heart he lent
Soon they wed their family bred
Post war challenges to be tread
A textile giant he soon became
Horseshoe champion was his game
Enough to match a president
A right wing pitch for this event
Pleased was he with wife to adore
Her photo on heart as before
A scene serene as all can see
His high school love his Reveille
